Captive in the Dark by CJ Roberts
4 out of 5 stars
Caleb is a man with a singular interest in revenge. Kidnapped as a young boy and sold into slavery by a power-hungry mobster, he has thought of nothing but vengeance. For twelve years he has immersed himself in the world of pleasure slaves searching for the one man he holds ultimately responsible. Finally, the architect of his suffering has emerged with a new identity, but not a new nature. If Caleb is to get close enough to strike, he must become the very thing he abhors and kidnap a beautiful girl to train her to be all that he once was.
Eighteen-year-old Olivia Ruiz has just woken up in a strange place. Blindfolded and bound, there is only a calm male voice to welcome her. His name is Caleb, though he demands to be called Master. Olivia is young, beautiful, naïve and willful to a fault. She has a dark sensuality that cannot be hidden or denied, though she tries to accomplish both. Although she is frightened by the strong, sadistic, and arrogant man who holds her prisoner, what keeps Olivia awake in the dark is her unwelcome attraction to him.
Hold on I need a minute.
"He was my tormentor and my solace; the creator of the dark and the light within."
"This isn't a romance you're not the damsel in distress, and I'm not the handsome prince come to save you"
Except Caleb kinda sorta was... I think. Was Caleb justified? No I don't think so but at the same time I could not hate him and you understand slowly through out the story why he's doing what he's doing. Livvie "Kitten" she was such a strong character even when it worked against her. I'll be honest I've put off reading this book because the synopsis had me a little scared, I did not know if I could handle this book. Well let me tell you it wasn't as bad as I had expected. Yes horrible things happened, but then he was always there trying to soothe her. But hey maybe i just developed Stockholm. I seriously am rooting for their HEA.
Had this been a story solely threw Livvie's eyes this would probably be a DNF review, and I am so happy I overcame my preconceived notions and did not miss out on a truly fascinating story. And am extremely happy that I already have Seduced in the Dark and won't have to wait for the conclusion, because that would have been truly unbearable.
Fan made Video that made me want to read these books!
(not my ideal casting but everyone has their own opinion. Tho Charlie Hunnman I think is a good choice I think Hannah Simone is just told old to be "Kitten")
